Spotlight on the Christmas Tree Giving Campaign

We cannot thank you enough for your support and generous donation towards our #GivingTuesday campaign and the $115 that it raised. We’re inspired each day by this amazing community of family and friends like you that help. We’ve set a goal to raise $350 by the end of the year, and we are a third of the way there!

In a few days, we will tell you more about how you can help us put the ‘Spotlight Merry Christmas Everybody!(2)on the Christmas Tree Giving campaign.

Merry Christmas!

Katie Davis, President

Thank you for supporting our #GivingTuesday and AmazonSmile campaign

Giving Tuesday thank you image 3

Thank you so much for remembering Answers for Angels when you shop at AmazonSmile; for your purchases, Amazon donates a portion of it back to us. In addition, thank you for donating yesterday for the #GivingTuesday movement. Your donations to this campaign raised $115 to add to our end of year campaign goal.

With the funds raised yesterday and a spotlight on our end of year crusade beginning next week, we want to be successful in raising $350. Our goal is to sponsor another patient’s visit to an integrative oncologist and pay for prescribed supplements or shots, or pay a bill in their name and more. This doesn’t seem like much but to a cancer patient, consulting with an integrative oncologist and paying out-of-pocket for their medical care that insurance doesn’t cover, it’s a sizable amount. This amount provides another option to treating cancer and participating in healing their body back to health. Moreover, to a patient who’s single and self-supportive, it’s a relief to the challenge of making ends meet.

Your partnership with us is helpful and important to a cancer patient; it changes people’s lives in astonishing ways. People like Vicki O. from Washington with esophageal cancer that can now eat whole foods, something we take for granted, after following an integrative approach to her treatment. In her own words she “feels healthy, energetic, and happy!” This is an amazing testimony to hear about after 3 months of treatment!

Once more, thank you for your donations and please look for more information in the coming weeks as we begin our Spotlight on Giving Tree campaign.

Thank you and take care!

Helpful Opportunities to Giving

Answers for Angels hope that you had a wonderful Thanksgiving Day with family & friends. In our previous email/post, we mentioned how your donations, hosting fundraisers, & volunteering provided us with reaching our goal of offering a few cancer patients grant money. We also shared a testimony of a woman who received a dismal picture from a conventional oncologist. Did you miss that testimony? Our grant program helped pay for her IV shots that aren’t covered by insurance from an integrative oncologist as part of her medical treatment. (Read previous email/post.) Let’s keep the momentum going by supporting us again before this year ends!

You can support us a few different ways. One is by using AmazonSmile when ordering from Amazon during the holidays. At no cost to you, Amazon donates a portion of your purchase price to Answers for Angels. On your first visit to AmazonSmile (smile.amazon.com), please select Answers for Angels to receive donations from eligible purchases before you begin shopping.

Another is to join the #GivingTuesday movement. Giving Tuesday thank you imageIt’s a global movement dedicated to giving & celebrating the generosity of others to give to Answers for Angels before the year-end tax deduction rush. Any donation at this time is greatly appreciated by the many patients touched by cancer.

Lastly, if you’re unable to donate at this time, maybe you could volunteer on one of the many committees available at our 2016 Jog & Juice 5k run. The committees are Food, Publicity, T-Shirts, & Social Media.

Any way that you contribute will significantly help cancer patients struggling to pay for out-of-pocket expenses to heal their bodies back to health.

Thank you.

Katie Davis

Thank You for Giving and Changing Someone’s Life

At this time of Thanksgiving celebration, our thoughts turn gratefully to you with warm appreciation for your donations/support this past year. Thanks to your generosity, we were able to help a few cancer patients pay for complementary treatments & IV injections as part of their medical care. Your donations changed someone’s life by the programs we provide.

In May 2015, Vickie O. from Washington was diagnosed with Esophageal Cancer. Listen to her testimony that Answers for Angels received 3 months after her diagnosis & after using an integrative treatment.

I feel strong & healthy while fighting.
I feel strong & healthy while fighting.

The conventional oncologist recommended chemo without much hope for improvement – let alone curing the cancer; they painted a dismal outcome. (I cannot eat & swallow whole foods, at this time.)

The integrative oncologist offered several treatments, injections, & supplements with the hope & chance of recovery; I found them to be compassionate & optimistic. The idea of only targeting the cancer cells & not harming the healthy cells appealed to me. With this treatment, I feel strong & healthy while fighting.

Complementary Therapies in Lung Cancer

For Lung Cancer Awareness Month, we’d like to inform people that there are several complementary therapy modalities that can be helpful in improving the overall care of patients with lung cancer.

Integrate Cancer
Educate yourself on integration

Here’s an article from PubMed, the National Institute of Health, National Center for Complementary & Integrative Health, dated May 2013. The title of the article is ‘Complementary therapies and integrative medicine in lung cancer: Diagnosis and management of lung cancer.’

Physicians are often asked about complementary therapies by patients with cancer, and data show that the interest in and use of these therapies among patients with cancer is common. Therefore, it is important to assess the current evidence base on the benefits and risks of complementary therapies (modalities not historically used in modern Western medicine).

A systematic literature review was carried out and recommendations were made according to the American College of Chest Physicians Evidence-Based Clinical Practice Guidelines development methodology.

A large number of randomized controlled trials, systematic reviews, and meta-analyses, as well as a number of prospective cohort studies, met the predetermined inclusion criteria. These trials addressed many different issues pertaining to patients with lung cancer, such as symptoms of anxiety, mood disturbance, pain, quality of life, and treatment-related side effects. The available data cover a variety of interventions, including acupuncture, nutrition, mind-body therapies, exercise, and massage. The body of evidence supports a series of recommendations. An evidenced-based approach to modern cancer care should integrate complementary therapies with standard cancer therapies such as surgery, radiation, chemotherapy, and best supportive care measures.

Several complementary therapy modalities can be helpful in improving the overall care of patients with lung cancer. Answers for Angels are here to support patients wishing to ease the symptoms from their treatment. Whether you choose an oncology-trained acupuncturist/massage therapist or not, they both may require a note from your oncologist, so ask.

Please visit our website for more resources and information on how patients may apply for a grant to help pay for these treatments.

Take care,
Katie Davis, President

Is there a connection between spirituality and cancer?

This has perhaps been the question of many who have suffered from the disease, or who have watched loved ones suffer. With on-going treatment for cancer being exorbitant, many are finding other ways to heal from cancer – through Faith in God. But is there a connection?

The short answer is yes! Recent studies show that patients who are more religious, tend to have fewer physical symptoms. They also respond to treatment better and recover faster.

Research Leader from the Moffitt Cancer Center in Florida, Heather Jim explained that the cancer patients with a positive spiritual awareness have better health, as opposed to those who had anger towards God. She also observed that religious patients were naturally less inclined to smoke or drink.

Furthermore, she mentioned that spiritual people tended to be more physically affectionate, and that this had a marked effect on their responsiveness to treatment and overall health. Those with spiritual distress tended to be more depressed and did not consistently adhere to medical recommendations.

Read this article for yourself and then tell me what you think. Is there a connection?
